This is why I look up words every day. Chauvinism has a much broader meaning than I've been led to believe. That's a problem with lazy word use. Someone shortens "male chauvinism" to "chauvinism" and then everyone uses the shortened version, and then I have a much more limited bag of synonyms until it occurs to me to question society!
